Like many tabletop roleplayers, I, Terrence, discovered the hobby back when I was in school. Throughout junior high school, high school, and college, I played games like Dungeons & Dragons and the Warhammer Fantasy RPG with a close group of friends. After college, also like many tabletop roleplayers, things like work, marriage, the drifting of friends, and other responsibilities took the place of long gaming sessions and they were replaced by more manageable outlets, such as books and video games.
While my love for these games never dissipated, it would be nearly thirty years before I would start playing again. My solo experiences started first with Tunnels & Trolls solitaire adventures. Soon afterward, however, I discovered the free-form style of solo roleplay showcased in many of the stories I now post on Tev’s Next Idea.
The site began as a repository for my hobby, but I soon realized that, just as I had learned the finer points of solo gaming through reading blogs, Tev’s Next Idea could be a similar resource for others gamers. So, with every game I post, I like to keep these three goals in mind: Entertain by presenting an interesting, well-written story; Instruct by explaining the rules of the game and the tools I use; and Inform by letting the reader in on what I am thinking as I play and why I make the decisions that I do.
Why The Name?
Who is Tev, and why is having all these ideas? Well, Tev is me, Terrence. Ever since I first started exploring the internet back in the mid-1990s, I used the name Teviko. It was a combination of the first two letters of my first, middle, and last name. Sometime later, to distinguish from other “Teviko’s” roaming the web, I added a number which held for me significant meaning, 604, to the end. Hence, I became known across cyberspace as Teviko604.
Using the shortened version of the name, Tev, I originally created Tev’s Next Idea to blog about anything that came to mind. Whatever idea came to me next. Eventually, my frequency in blogging waned and the site was all but abandoned. In 2019, when I was looking for a place to post my solo stories, my old blog site seemed like the perfect place. I wouldn’t have to keep track of another website, nor would I need to change the name. Solo roleplaying was, in effect, the chaining of one idea after another. So I backed up all my old articles, wiped the site clean, and began to build the site you are reading today.
